Action Interferes with neurotransmitter release by cleaving synaptic vesicle-associated membrane protein.
Indications Reduction of severity of abnormal head position and neck pain in adult patients with cervical dystonia.
Contraindications Standard considerations.
ADULTS: In patients with known history of tolerance, 2500 to 5000 U divided among affected muscles. In patients without a history of tolerating botulinum toxin, administer a lower initial dose than in patients with known history of tolerance, adjusting subsequent doses based on individual response.
Aminoglycosides, Drugs Interfering with Neuromuscular Transmission: The effects of botulinum toxin may be potentiated.
Lab Test Interferences None well documented.
CARDIOVASCULAR: Vasodilation. CNS: Dizziness; headache; migraine; anxiety; tremor; hyperesthesia; somnolence; confusion; vertigo. DERMATOLOGIC: Pruritus; ecchymosis. EENT: Dysphagia; rhinitis; glossitis; tooth disorder; amblyopia; otitis media; abnormal vision; taste perversion; tinnitus. GI: Dry mouth; dyspepsia; nausea; vomiting; GI disorder. GU: Urinary tract infection; cystitis; vaginal moniliasis. METABOLIC: Peripheral edema; edema; hypercholesterolemia. RESPIRATORY: Increased cough; dyspnea; lung disorder; pneumonia. OTHER: Neck pain and pain related to cervical dystonia; pain at injection site; infection; pain; flu syndrome; arthralgia; back pain; myasthenia; asthenia; accidental injury; allergic reaction; fever; chest pain; chills; hernia; malaise; abscess; cyst; neoplasm; viral infection.
Pregnancy: Category C. Lactation: Undetermined. Children: Safety and efficacy not established. Neuropathic Disorders: Use with caution in patients with neuropathic diseases because of increased risk of systemic effects including severe dysphagia and respiratory compromise.

1i am very satisfied with your website and i find all the answers .my father suffers with the problem of cervical dystronia in his neck but i want to know is there any permanent treatment of this problem as the treatment is going on and dr.gave three injections to him in the interval of three or four months.now please tell me is there any permanent treatment please tell me on my e-mail address

2Hi , there some treatments methods for torticollis ,but no one of pharmacological treatments doesn’t have permanent effect
some neurosurgeons could perform denervation , but it difficult surgery usually not performed , just in non responders to pharmacological treatment
