GI anticholinergic agents are used primarily to decrease motility (smooth muscle tone) in the GI, biliary, and urinary tracts and for their antisecretory effects.

Combination anticholinergic preparations may include the following components

Barbiturates, prochlorperazine, hydroxyzine, meprobamate, chlordiazepoxide: These components are used as sedatives and antianxiety agents.

Ergotamine tartrate: Ergotamine tartrate provides inhibition of the sympathetic nervous system.

Antihistamines: Antihistamines are used for antihistaminic effects, sedative, or anticholinergic side effects.

Kaolin: Kaolin is used for its adsorbent properties.
